Hopium at Hungaroring

The Hungaroring is the next stop on the F1 circus and some of the animals are getting restless. The new regulations are making racing unpredictable, even for World Drivers’ Championship leader Kimi Antonelli, but especially for his Mercedes teammate George Russell.

Aesthetically, this track is mostly a dustbowl, but it was purpose-built and celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.

The inspiration for this design was drawn from the nearby city of Budapest with the River Danube and historic buildings on either side. The European heatwave has seen the river level is at its lowest in 30 years, meaning disruption to the operation of trade vessels and tourist cruises.

Formula 1 aims to be carbon neutral by 2030 and at the end of 2024 had reduced carbon emissions by 26%. Emissions have been reduced from factories and facilities, travel, logistics and event operations.
