Back in Baku

The Baku circuit in Azerbaijan is one of the more interesting with its combination of straights and curves where it loops through the city’s Icheri Sheher old town and past the medieval fortress walls, often referred to in commentary as the castle.

It is a circuit that is responsible for incredible wins and devastating heartbreak. Oscar Piastri won in 2024 and crashed out in 2025. This week he described his relationship with the circuit as ‘love-hate’. ‘I think probably my best race ever has been at this track – and probably my worst race ever has been at this track. So, always eventful,’ he told the official media conference ahead of the weekend’s activities.

The other thing that makes it different this year is racing is on Saturday, rather than Sunday, when the Azerbaijan Remembrance Day will be observed.

The design is inspired by the castle walls and the vibrant markets of Baku. The action on track promises to be zesty.
